Fast forward, after not being fully satisfied with Wix, I decided to give wordpress.com a shot (once I realized it had finally offered customer support to go along with their paid W.Y.S.I.W.Y.G. domain and hosting plans).

Sure, you will definitely find other domain and/or hosting companies that offer a similar service at a much lower price, but I assure you that you will not get the top quality and reliability that WP offers. Every penny spent is justified by the completely amazing value that you are getting without having to spend thousands of dollars having a website developer build and design a website for you from scratch.
Furthermore, you can maintain the website yourself quite easily by just logging into your account. This certainly beats the hell out of hoping that your website developer doesn’t just suddenly ghost you, or at the very least delays fixing your site with the updates that are necessary for perfect site working order. As the old saying goes “If you want something done right, do it yourself!”.
Finally I would like to mention that if you want to customize your website that goes beyond your WP theme’s capabilities, you can always contact a WP happiness engineer and they will gladly provide you with the exact custom CSS code and instructions to accomplish your website expansion goals! To me this is a humungous perk because many other similar providers do not offer support in respect to helping you with CSS code customization 😀
